HALIFAX - A year ago, Ed Davis and Terrence Ross were the two Raptors who made the biggest impression in the intrasquad scrimmage played at the Metro Centre before 7,000 or so noisy Halagonians.

A year later, the venue and the fan base haven’t changed, but picking just one or two that stood out in this year’s game was much tougher.

As head coach Dwane Casey said, “There was plenty to like,” and we can’t disagree with him.

There were big contributions from many corners. For starters, Davis isn’t here anymore, but the man coming back in the trade — Rudy Gay — showed enough of his scoring touch to confirm his off-season eye surgery hasn’t hurt him. He also looked very much like a guy still getting accustomed to the 15-or-so pounds he put on to better battle the bigger threes in the NBA East.
