TORONTO - Steve Novak will forever be known in Raptors circles as the return in the Andrea Bargnani deal.
That may sound like a burden. Novak understands that, but knows it is not.
Officially, the trade went down July 10, but word was out more than 10 days earlier that new Raptors general manger and president Masai Ujiri had somehow convinced the New York Knicks to part with draft picks and multiple living and breathing players for the man who is doomed to tarnish Bryan Colangelo’s resume for life.
For the time being, Novak is the only contributing return — Quentin Richardson was waived and Marcus Camby bought out — although a first-round pick in 2016 and second-round picks this coming draft and in 2017 are to come.
Novak is far too nice a man to go piling on where Bargnani is concerned. He acknowledges Bargnani had some very good years here early on, but he knows how it ended here as well for the big Italian.
