TORONTO - The Department of Motor Vehicles or DMV is often depicted in U.S. television as the pinnacle of bureaucratic frustration and inefficiency.

Someone is always caught in a long line waiting to see the puffed-up pencil pusher who does their utmost to be as little help as possible.

Depending on how things shake out this season, Rudy Gay might just be sending his local DMV a thank-you card.

You see, if it weren’t for the DMV, Gay would never have taken the step to look into correcting his vision.

Gay had off-season PRK laser eye surgery, and while it was only a 10-minute procedure, it was a big deal for Gay who sees clearly now. He just doesn’t know how long it has been since his vision went.

“I don’t know at all,” he said when asked what his vision was corrected from. “I just know I could barely get my licence, so it was pretty bad and I didn’t know it. Obviously I feel a lot better going into the season a little bit more confident.”
