LAS VEGAS - If there is a face to the cultural change the Toronto Raptors are trying to undertake, it may belong to Tyler Hansbrough.
The former Indiana bad boy made his official debut in Toronto on Monday alongside his new GM Masai Ujiri.
From Ujiri to head coach Dwane Casey, the off-season has been about re-focusing all the attention on defence and instituting a focus on toughness.
Hansbrough brings both in buckets.
“I think the style of the player and the coach I think is big for us,” Ujiri said. “He’s defensive minded, tough ... we’ve got a couple of players like that, but we’ll see how it goes. There are other aspects of the game that we need to get better at and we understand that.”
But tough is the single description Ujiri kept coming back to.
"He's very tough, and he is full of energy, and he is trying to keep the ball in when he rebounds which I think is a very defensive play. He plays very defensively. You know it's funny, he sits beside coach Casey and he's all defence which I think is great for the team."
