The state of the Atlantic Division became quite a bit clearer on Thursday night — just not where the Raptors are concerned.

The blockbuster trade sending future hall-of-famers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from Boston to Brooklyn lit a beacon as to where those two franchises are heading in the near future.

The Nets, under billionaire showman Mikhail Prokhorov are spending at will in what will likely be a futile attempt at winning a championship (Garnett and Pierce are old, Deron Williams is mercurial and inconsistent at this point, Brook Lopez is brittle, new head coach Jason Kidd is a neophyte in that role, etc.)

Brooklyn is going for it, in a big way, trying to wrest top billing in the five boroughs away from the Knicks.
