Tough finding minutes for Raptors rookie Ross

Terrence Ross may yet be given extended minutes and be allowed to play through mistakes for long stretches.

But unless something dramatic happens to DeMar DeRozan’s game, Toronto’s high-flying, dunk-defying rookie will have just have bide his time and try to make an impression in practice.

To hear head coach Dwane Casey tell it, Ross is the unwitting victim of a team that has undergone an identity shift in the wake of the Rudy Gay trade.

With DeRozan and Gay taking turns stepping up, Casey has no choice but to keep at least one on the court.

Ideally, both should be on the floor, but given the perils of extended minutes it’s of little of service to have DeRozan and Gay play in excess of 40 minutes.

Following Friday night’s visit by the Indiana Pacers, the Raptors were winging it to Milwaukee, where Saturday night the team opens a road swing that will take Toronto to the West Coast with games against Golden State, Phoenix and the L.A. Lakers.

Do you like the new-look Raptors heading into the 2013-14 NBA season?
Yes, new GM made great moves
No, they will still be a terrible team
Unsure what to make of it
