TORONTO - Kyle Lowry knows what Rudy Gay is capable of in the clutch.
He has seen it plenty of times already in Gay’s short tenure in a Toronto uniform.
But when it became apparent that Gay would not be given room to breathe let alone get a shot off, Lowry put it on himself to win it.
With Tyson Chandler, a guy who has 13 inches on Lowry hounding him all the way to the basket, Lowry somehow got a shot up and over the Knicks centre and got it to fall with 28 seconds remaining in a tied game.
And with the Knicks needing a three to tie the game and the seconds ticking down, it was Lowry who got up and into a red-hot Carmelo Anthony, denying the perennial all-star a clean shot at a potential tying three that would hit iron and fall into the waiting arms of Gay.
Gay would close out the game with a pair of free throws to match Anthony with a game-high tying 32 points in a thrilling 100-98 Raptors win.
