Calderon's ankle improving
By Mike Ganter, QMI Agency

Raptors' Jose Calderon is helped off the floor after spraining his ankle on Saturday.

The news on Jose Calderon was better than expected.

The sprained right ankle he suffered Saturday night in Detroit may not be the long-term or even a moderately long one based on how the ankle responded to treatment Sunday.

“He’s much improved over last night,” head coach Dwane Casey said of Calderon, adding the team will take him on the five-game road swing that begins in Cleveland on Tuesday.

Casey didn’t come out and say it, but the hope seems to be Calderon’s ankle will improve sufficiently for him to play at some point on the trip.

The Raptors have three days between the fourth game of the trip in Charlotte and the fifth and final game in New York and will return home in between.

With Calderon on the shelf the starting point guard duties go to Jerryd Bayless with Gary Forbes assuming Bayless’ old role as backup.

The Raptors have yet to officially waive Anthony Carter, but the former No. 3 point guard on the team is back in Denver and will not be coming back to Toronto.
