Howie Triano will appear in a St. Catharines, Ont., court next month to answer to several sex-related charges involving children.

Triano, a retired teacher and high school principal, was arrested in November. He was released from custody following a bail hearing.

The matter was brought before a Justice of the Peace in St. Catharines on Wednesday to set a trial date.

Triano, who is the father of former Toronto Raptors coach Jay Triano, did not appear in court. A lawyer speaking on behalf of his Toronto lawyer, requested the matter be postponed until Feb. 8.

The 78-year-old Niagara Falls resident is charged with two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
