WASHINGTON — Back-to-backs by their nature are tough.
But this one in particular was shaping up to be one of the tougher one’s for the Raptors.
Already down Leandro Barbosa whose sore right hamstring will keep him in Toronto for the duration of this five-game road trip and perhaps longer, the Raptors learned just before game time that point guard Jerryd Bayless would not be available.
Bayless has been playing through a sore left ankle but following a brief attempt at a warm up, could not get loose after playing on it the night before and was scratched from the active roster.
That leaves Jose Calderon, who is playing on a sore left foot, and the recently signed Sundiata Gaines, who joined the Raptors on Thursday on a 10-day contract as Jay Triano’s options at point guard.
In an emergency, the third point guard would become Julian Wright.
The host Washington Wizards came in a little beat up themselves but had only positive news pre-game with both Andray Blatche and Nick Young expected to play after there being some question about their status the day before.
