Bayless to sit again
Ankle injury won't go away

BOSTON — Jerryd Bayless will not play for the Raptors on Friday night against the Boston Celtics and from the way he was talking on Friday morning, it might be a while before he returns to the lineup.

“It’s getting better, but it’s not there,” Bayless told the Toronto Sun about his sore ankle.

“I don’t want it to be a lingering thing, it’s got to get better.

“I think if I continue to try to keep on going, keep on pushing it, it’s not going to go away.”

While trying to do just that recently, Bayless only made his injuries worse, turning the ankle repeatedly.

Bayless has only been able to play a total of 39 minutes over the past four games and appears doubtful for Sunday’s clash with the Sacramento Kings.

Wednesday’s tilt with the Atlanta Hawks seems more likely for a return.

Starting point guard Jose Calderon is still hobbled with foot and ankle problems, but will play against the Celtics.

Swingman Sonny Weems (back spasms) made it through a successful workout in Toronto on Friday and is expected back either Sunday or Wednesday after missing nine games.

“Hopefully he’s ready to go and practise when we get back,” said Raptors head coach Jay Triano.
