TORONTO - Raptors rookie Ed Davis continues to inch closer to making his NBA debut.

Davis worked out with the team on offence Thursday for the first time since minor knee surgery.

Davis did 5-on-0 drills and 2-on-0 screen and rolls and declared that a return is coming "soon," since he is cleared to participate in contact drills starting Nov. 1.

Davis, sporting a brace on his right knee, said he was happy to get back on the floor.

"It was a good feeling, kind of a funny feeling," said the 13th pick out of North Carolina. "I'm trying to get my way back into it."

The understated Davis said he wasn't too excited to be in a suit, but on an NBA roster, for opening night because he is dying to actually be on the court.

"It kind of felt good, but not really, I wish I was in uniform," Davis said, adding that even when he returns, he probably won't be an expressive bundle of energy like his teammate Reggie Evans.

"Probably, just 'cause of my demeanour, I'm laid back, don't show a lot of emotion," he said.

Davis said Evans' effort is inspiring.

"He shows his emotions on the court and I learn just watching him," Davis said.

"He just outworks everybody on the floor, that why he got 16 rebounds (against New York Wednesday). You learn from him that if you work hard, you can be that, because he's not the tallest, he doesn't jump the highest, but he works harder than everybody else and that's why he has rebounding nights like he does."
