TORONTO - Jay Triano gets one more dress rehearsal tonight in Montreal against the New York Knicks before the real show opens Wednesday.

If the Raptors head coach has one wish for the game, it is that the improvements he has seen in the Raptors defending the three-point line carry over to the team’s help-side defence which continues to be a work in progress.

“Our pressure on the ball has taken away the other teams threes,” Triano said highlighting the positive. “We are not giving as many threes as we have in the past and offensively we are top of the league in most categories, say the top six or seven in most which is where we were last year. Now we just have to get better in our help-side rotations and that’s what we are working on.”

Triano said that breaking down game tape of Wednesday’s loss to Chicago made it clear how much improvement the team needs in this area.

“It’s just getting there and knowing rotations,” Triano said. “We watched video today and I only watched the first half of the game and in the first five plays we had five of our starters do the wrong thing or not be in the right place.”

While it’s a team-wide problem, Triano was asked specifically about Andrea Bargnani and whether his help defence, which was singled out as a real weakness heading into the off-season, had improved.

“No,” Triano said without further elaboration.
