Johnson playing it coy

The Raptors want Amir Johnson back, the free agent wouldn’t mind returning, but don’t expect a deal to get done July 1.

Johnson, in town to work out with teammates DeMar DeRozan, Sonny Weems and Joey Dorsey at the Air Canada Centre on Thursday, made it clear he’ll wait to see where the NBA’s free agency dominoes fall before making a decision.

“I talked to Bryan Colangelo, he said he wants to sign me 100% (but) we’ll have to wait until July and see what happens,” Johnson told reporters.

“I’ll probably take my time with it, there’s no rush.”

Johnson will wait to see what happens with Chris Bosh, but admitted he would be ready for a bigger role should Bosh decide to leave.

Johnson had a breakout season after being acquired along with Weems from the Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 6.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 17.4 minutes per game.

A tendency to foul prevents Johnson from playing big-time minutes, but he was very effective for the Raptors and teams know he brings hustle and tenacity at both ends of the floor.

Happy campers

The Raptors announced who would be coming in for their free-agent camp this weekend.

The list was headlined by ex-NBAers Salim Stoudamire, D.J. Strawberry, Bernard Robinson, Cheikh Samb and Alade Aminu, one of the top defensive big men in the NBADL. The camp runs Friday and Saturday.
