Quincy Douby won't officially learn that his 10-day contract is being extended through the end of the season until today, but that was the worst kept secret at the Air Canada Centre last night.
More importantly to Douby is whether his hard work will earn him an opportunity heading into next year.
Douby didn't hurt his chances yesterday. In 11 minutes of playing time he scored seven points and chipped in with two assists .
"My situation wasn't that good where I was before," Douby said referring to his three seasons with the Sacramento Kings. "Now being here I have to take advantage of my situation."
Douby appears to have a backer in Raptors head coach Jay Triano.
"The thing I like to look at is how hard he works in practice every day, how much he stays after and works with the coaches trying to get better," he said. "Guys like that have to get better. All those signs point to him improving his game."
O'Bryant gets some run
Patrick O'Bryant led all reserves with just under 18 minutes of court time last night and came away with a respectable night's work of 10 points and five rebounds.
"Fortunately for me we were in a situation where we had six games left and we had no chance of making the playoffs so it was a chance to get some double-digit minutes and show what I can do," he said.
