The Toronto Raptors added some depth at forward for the stretch run yesterday.

The Raptors announced the signing of forward Linton Johnson to a 10-day contract and waived guard Darrick Martin.

Johnson, who is 6-foot-8 and 205 pounds, has appeared in 139 career regular-season NBA games with five teams. He appeared in six games with Phoenix this season after signing consecutive 10-day contracts with the club on Feb. 22 and March 4. He averaged 2.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 8.8 minutes.

Martin had seen limited action in 17 games this season with the Raptors. He will remain with the team in a non-playing capacity.

MORE PRAISE FOR CALDERON

Perhaps the least surprised member of the Raptors by Jose Calderon's unselfish move to offer up his starting role to T.J. Ford was Calderon's teammate from the Spanish national team, Jorge Garbajosa.

"I think the most important thing is when you focus on the name on the front of your jersey, not the back," Garbajosa said. "When you think about it, if you focus on your teammate good things happen. It's not a matter of how many minutes you're going to play."

Garbajosa only learned of his friend's offer when the switch was announced Wednesday morning, and while he admits it's not a common occurrence in the NBA, Calderon making such a sacrifice did not surprise him.

"I don't want to say that's the European way or that we are different at all, but it's really easy to talk about sacrifices, it's really tough to do it," Garbajosa said. "With this kind of act, you can see it was not just words (for Calderon)."
