MIAMI -- So much for a nice relaxing trip to Florida's sunny south.
Not only did it rain cats and dogs most of the day, but the game turned out to be a very painful one for Andrea Bargnani.
Bargnani, who got off to a solid first quarter with a team-leading 10 points, was in the locker room midway through the third quarter after Alexander Johnson laid him out with a body check Scott Stevens would be proud of.
Johnson's elbow connected solidly with Bargnani's left cheek as the Raptors sophomore made a strong baseline drive to the basket sending the seven-foot Italian hard to the court.
Bargnani remained down on the court for five minutes while Johnson, who got the start with Udonis Haslem unavailable for personal reasons, was assessed a flagrant foul. Bargnani eventually returned to the bench under his own power with a visible lump forming under his left eye.
He returned to the court to make both free throws he was awarded but went directly from there to the locker room where he was examined.
X-rays on the cheek were negative. There were no signs of a concussion, although he probably will need some dental work today as his left front tooth was moved in the collision. He will be reexamined today in Miami.
Bargnani came into the game averaging 10.3 points a game with 3.9 rebounds in just under 25 minutes a night.
