Garbo can't get a leg up

DALLAS -- All is not well with Jorge Garbajosa.

Just how bad things are no one is quite sure right now.

All that is certain is Garbajosa will go on the inactive list for at least last night's and tonight's games with Darrick Martin dressing for the first time this year. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Following a morning shootaround where Garbajosa was dunking and doing all the normal basketball activities any healthy player would do, word came from the Raptors medical staff in Toronto that something was amiss with an MRI taken of the Spaniard's left ankle and leg that he mangled during a horrific fall last March in Boston.

The MRI, the second of monthly checkups team doctors and Gabajosa's doctors in Spain jointly decided would be appropriate at the beginning of the season, showed "something strange."

Garbajosa says he expects the Toronto doctors will be consulting experts before coming to a conclusion about the mystery MRI.

"Until we know for sure what is happening, it's best to stay calm and take it easy," Garbajosa said.

"The MRI showed soemthing that is a little bit different than how things should be," he said.

"I'm not saying at all that that is not right."

The doctors have done a great job since the beginning, but they asked me two days ago how I feel and I said then the same way I feel now, I don't feel any pain.

"That doesn't mean though that I don't have further problems."

Asked if he thought the insurance policy that he personally purchased that allowed him to play in the Eurobask championships this past September for Spain and expires on Nov. 30 had anything to do with the sudden findings, Garbajosa shook his head in the negative.

"If that were the case they would have taken the MRI on the 30th, not the 18th like they did," he said.

Garbajosa said the news upset him because he will not be able to play with his team for at least two days.

Other than that, he is completely in agreement with the decision to go on the IL.

"They saw something that is not completely right but they are not sure if it is something important," Garbajosa said.

Garbajosa has been used sparingly so far this season appearing in just seven of the 10 games averaging just 10.6 minutes a night.
