Euros unlikely for Garbo

Jorge Garbajosa, who suffered a displaced left ankle joint last Monday in Boston, was finally able to leave his apartment on Saturday afternoon when his teammate and compatriot, Jose Calderon, took him for lunch in a wheelchair.

"He needed some air and it was good," Calderon said.

There have been reports in a Spanish newspaper that Garbajosa expects to be healthy enough to represent his country at the European championship in September, although Calderon isn't so sure about that.

"The media (in Spain) has said that, but Garbo knows that it's almost impossible," said Calderon, adding that it's more wishful thinking. "The European championship is in Madrid, that's why everyone is (speculating) about it."

Calderon said he is pretty sure that Garbajosa will be ready to take part in Raptors training camp in October, which will be held in Italy and Spain.

He also believes that Garbajosa will make his first appearance back at the ACC (to watch) next Sunday when the Raptors play host to the Chicago Bulls.

BEST WISHES

There were two giant get-well banners set up at the Air Canada Centre that were available for fans to sign and express their best wishes to Garbajosa and rookie forward Andrea Bargnani, who is expected to return in the next week or so after having his appendix removed 12 days ago.

AROUND THE RIM

The Raptors have struggled on the boards all season, but Toronto currently ranks first in the NBA over the past five games (not including last night) with an average of 48.4 rebounds and is tied with the Phoenix Suns for first with a plus 5.6 differential. Over the past five games, the Raptors also are second in field goal percentage (52%) and sixth in three-point shooting (43%) and free throw shooting (79%) ... The Raptors attendance is also well ahead of last year when they averaged 16,998. This season's average is 18,066, with 15 sellouts, as compared to four last season ... Bargnani received a nice round of applause when he was shown on the ACC scoreboard last night.
