Ford understands Sow's pain

T.J. Ford had a better idea than most Monday night on just how good it must have felt for Pape Sow when he got back in a game after missing the first half of the season.

Sow, who fractured a vetebrae in his neck during an NBA Summer League game in July, played the final three minutes of Monday's 105-84 win over Charlotte.

Ford missed the entire 2004-05 season recovering from neck surgery. Like Sow, he was around the team for much of the year but not contributing. He said he made a point of talking with Sow as much as possible during his recuperation.

"I've been talking with him because I've been through that scenario," Ford said. "You're part of the team but you don't really feel a part of the team. I tried to make sure he was into it mentally and just give him the advice I could give him. He's mentally strong, but I just wanted to make sure he still felt like a part of the team."

BOSH ON CALDERON

The biggest difference Chris Bosh has seen in Jose Calderon's game from last year is the way he's shooting and finishing.

"I think last year there were times he would get his shot blocked because he really didn't know how to make contact with the big guys," Bosh said. "He's coming off that screen and if they go under he's shooting the ball well. He's been doing that consistently."

The Raps leading scorer also believes Calderon's deceptive speed has caught a few teams off guard.

"You don't really think he's super-fast, but he hits a couple of people a game with those moves and he gets to that cut really fast and by the time they realize it he has four or five layups in the game. (Once they adjust to that) he starts kicking it back out and we've got wide open three's."

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

The New Orleans Hornets will be without the services of both point guard Chris Paul and forward Peja Stojakovic for tonight's game.

It has been a bit of a recurring theme for Raptor opponents in January and so far the Raps have been able to take advantage.
