Bonner OK with his role

Matt Bonner has no trouble understanding why he had to sit on the San Antonio Spurs bench for two entire games before making his debut with new team yesterday.

"I'd have to be the biggest egomaniac ever to be upset about not playing because we have two hall-of-famers at my position (in his opinion, Tim Duncan and Robert Horry)," the ex-Raptors forward said before his Spurs faced Toronto at the Air Canada Centre.

Bonner finally saw the floor yesterday in the final minute of the first quarter at the ACC and received a loud ovation from the fans. But Bonner didn't do much to impress coach Gregg Popovich, finishing 0-for-4 from the field with one rebound.

KUDOS FROM TEXAS

The Raptors played pretty poorly yesterday in a 103-93 loss, but you wouldn't know it from listening to championship-prone Popovich.

"The Raptors have done a great job, Bryan (Colangelo) and Maurizio (Gherardini) bringing this team together," he said. "They're young and they are just going to keep getting better and better. So, we are happy with the win because they are a very athletic team and they get up and down the court well."

NO TALK-BACK

The jury is still out for Raptors' back-up point guard Darrick Martin when it comes to the NBA's no-talk-back rule, which has resulted in more than a few high-profile ejections so far in this new season, notably Rasheed Wallace of the Pistons and Carmelo Anthony of the Nuggets.

"My issue is you're playing a game that is emotional and you're asking us to take that emotion out of it a little bit," he said.

"There's a fine line. If we didn't get emotional we couldn't be successful at this game."

BROWN DRAFTED

The Tulsa 66ers of the D-League drafted Toronto's Denham Brown with the eighth overall pick in Thursday's draft. The 6-foot-5 Brown was cut by the Seattle Supersonics towards the end of the pre-season.
