Parker in for a treat

No one will blame Raptors guard/forward Anthony Parker, one of nine new Raptors this season, if he isn't overcome this week with a bout of nostalgia.

Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he played five seasons, before signing with the Raptors this past summer, is set to play the Raptors in a pre-season game Thursday night at the Air Canada Centre.

Parker, a native of Illinois, said that time playing in the Israeli Premier League after spending two years in the NBA in the late 1990s was the best basketball experience he ever had, and he wishes more people would take a different view of that part of the world.

"It's a shame that part of the world is portrayed in the news the way it is," he said. "You always see it as a war zone instead of a beautiful part of the world. I always said I felt safer in Tel Aviv than I did in any major city in the U.S. You wish more people would go over there and experience what I experienced."
