End to purple reign
Raptors go with new look

The Raptors are white-washing purple out of their uniforms.

Purple, the predominant colour of the Raptors since the team's expansion season, 1995-96, is history.

The home uniforms will switch from white and purple to white with red trim, while the road uniforms will no longer be black and purple, but predominately red.

The move, according to a Raptors insider, is to give the team a more "Canadian" look. Toronto is the only Canadian city with an NBA franchise, and the team is often referred to around the league as "Canada's Team."

The Raptors officially will unveil the new uniforms later this month.

As well, the actual Raptors/dinosaur logo, which has been a fixture with the team since expansion, will be replaced on the uniform, and at centre court, with the now popular claw logo.

The actual Raptors logo will be used in business applications only.

The Raptors begin training camp on Oct. 3 at the University of Waterloo, with the pre-season beginning on Oct.9, in Washington.

The regular season for the Raptors begins in New Jersey, against Vince Carter and the Nets, on Nov. 1.
