LAS VEGAS -- Raptors forward Pape Sow underwent neck surgery in a Las Vegas hospital last night.

Sow fell driving to the basket during practice on Tuesday and hit his neck on another player's leg as he went down.

He was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital for tests, and held for observations the past three nights.

He will miss this week's NBA Summer League.

Sow, 24, averaged 3.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in 42 games (25 as a starter) for the Raptors last season.

In his absence, the Raps brought veteran NBA forward Samaki Walker into camp yesterday.

Walker was the ninth pick overall in the 1996 draft (Dallas Mavericks) and helped the Los Angeles Lakers win the 2002 NBA title.

BIG GUY UPDATE

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo used the F-word when talking about first overall draft pick Andrea Bargnani yesterday.

Steady on. The word is fatigued. Colangelo admitted that the 20-year Bargnani, who arrived from Europe last week after helping Benetton Treviso win the Italian championship, looks like he's lagging a bit at the Raptors free agent and rookie camp.

"He looks a little fatigued, coming off the 81-game season and a recent trip to the finals," Colangelo said. "A lot of emotional energies are spent in a series like that. And once you win a championship, it tends to drain you somewhat emotionally.

"It's not so much celebratory. There's an emotional letdown after something like that."

Still, the GM and coaching staff have been impressed with Bargnani's work ethic and his performance last night in the team's first NBA Summer League game at the COX Pavillion on the campus of UNLV.

The 7-foot Italian started against the Washington Wizards alongside recently-acquired forward Kris Humphries, second-year small forward Joey Graham and guards William Avery and Andre Barrett, and made his presence felt right away, driving to the basket on the Raptors' first possession, drawing a foul and then hitting both frees.

He finished the game with an impressive 20 points in 30 minutes. He also had six fouls. The Raptors came back to win 93-85.
