Raptors point guard Jose Calderon may have some compatriot companionship next season.
A Spanish radio station has reported that Spanish national team power forward Jorge Garbajosa is close to signing a contract with the Raptors, although the organization did not confirm it.
The 6-foot-8 Garbajosa played with Memphis Grizzlies' Pau Gasol and Calderon at the 2004 Athens Olympics and was a second all-star in the Euroleague as a member of Unicaja de Malaga.
Garbajosa, 28, averaged 16 points and seven rebounds at the 2005 Euroleague championships.
The Raptors continue their workouts today for draft eligible players and Toronto native Denham Brown, who just finished a four-year stint as a guard for Connecticut, is scheduled to workout for the team tomorrow. Brown is not a sure bet to be selected by an NBA team, but there's a chance that the Raptors may pick him with their second pick in the second round. The Raps own the first pick overall, as well as the 35th and 56th selections. The word is that GM Bryan Colangelo is leaning towards selecting Italian power forward Andrea Bargnani with the first pick.
