Araujo likely won't be back

Raptors centre Rafael Araujo may be gone for the season.

Araujo has missed the team's past 17 games because of a sore right shoulder, and the second-year player said yesterday he likely will undergo a scope this week or next.

"They'll have to do it sooner or later," Araujo said.

Araujo speculated that the minor surgery will keep him out at least three weeks to a month, or more, depending on the rehabilitation.

The 6-foot-11 Brazilian was drafted eighth overall by the Raptors in 2004 and has struggled ever since. His numbers are down from last season. He is averaging 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 points in 11.6 minutes of play, and has been booed at times by the Air Canada Centre faithful.

"It has been disappointing, but all I can do is fight through this," he said.

TONE FEELING THE PAIN

Centre-forward Antonio Davis may miss tonight's game against the visiting Atlanta Hawks because of a sore back suffered in Miami on Monday night. He did not practise yesterday.

"He's going to be day to day. I don't know if he'll be able to go (tonight), it will be a game-time decision," coach Sam Mitchell said. "If not, Loren (Woods) or Pape (Sow) will start. I haven't decided which one."

SO CLOSE, BUT YET ...

Chris Bosh is taking the "glass half full" approach to the fact the Raptors have lost nine games this season by three or fewer points, and have lost five of six games that went to overtime.

"That means we're close. You can't say it's a flaw," he said. "That's heart-breaking, that's like one or two possessions in a game. We just have to play more close attention to detail."

IN PRAISE OF WAYNE

Mitchell is thrilled that Wayne Embry, the senior adviser to the president, is sticking around, even though Toronto has hired Bryan Colangelo as the Raptors' new general manager and president.

"I can't tell you guys how much he has meant to me and my growth, not as only as a coach, but as a young man," Mitchell said. "There are things that we talk about that just blows me away."
