Bosh goes back to school

Chris Bosh never will be forgotten at his old high school and the Dallas native never will forget his days at Lincoln.

The Raptors star attended a Lincoln playoff game last night in his home town on the eve of Toronto's game against the Dallas Mavericks today.

During his undefeated senior season of 2001-02, when Lincoln went 40-0 en route to the Texas state championship, Bosh's jersey number (No. 1) was retired.

"That was the best time of my life," Bosh said yesterday after practice. "They say college is the best time of your life. But college I was getting broke in (on the court in his one year at Georgia Tech) so it wasn't that much fun. It was definitely one of the best times, one of the highlights of my life."

Bosh remembers that championship season like it was yesterday

"It was a great senior year," he said. "It was me and some of my closest friends because we had been together like five years just playing ball together. To get a win like that with a perfect season, it was kind of like a storybook ending."

Before that season, the NBA didn't seem like a realistic goal for Bosh, let alone becoming the fourth overall pick.

"As I blossomed over my senior year, that's when the talk kind of started," Bosh said. "I was not being mentioned that much (before that)."

Since joining the NBA, Bosh has attended three Lincoln games and joked yesterday that he hoped he would get a seat on the bench last night.

Dallas hasn't been a hotbed for NBA players, but one guy from the city is well-known to Bosh and Raptors fans -- ex-New York Knick Larry Johnson.

I looked up to him because I knew he was from Dallas," Bosh said. "I knew what high school he went to, I knew he was from South Dallas. He was pretty much an icon back where I was from."

RISE AND SHINE

The noon local start for today's game is the earliest tipoff for the Raptors this season. However, the Raptors play more afternoon games than many teams in the NBA -- 10 this season -- so it shouldn't be a problem.
