Ex-NBAer slags Raptors

Apparently, Tim Legler is not a big Raptors fan.

In fact, the ex-NBA player might be one of those brainiacs who figures the Raptors should move to St. Louis.

Legler, now an analyst for ESPN's nightly Fastbreak roundup show, didn't exactly have kind words for the Raptors Tuesday night during the Let's Fake a Trade segment.

"I want to see Chris Bosh somewhere other than Toronto," Legler said after suggesting a ridiculous three-way trade involving the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Raptors, which would see Bosh shipped out of town and a unimpressive return package heading to Toronto, featuring Antoine Walker and a bunch of expiring contracts.

"Toronto never is going to be good."

Off the bench

With East all-star starting power forward Jermaine O'Neal injured, there were some who felt Raptors star Bosh would be promoted to the starting lineup.

But East coach Flip Saunders said Tuesday he is leaning toward elevating New Jersey Nets forward Vince Carter to the starting lineup.

No quitting in NYC

The New York Knicks had lost 10 a row heading into a game last night against the visiting Raptors, but Toronto coach Sam Mitchell doesn't think the New Yorkers have contemplated quitting on his mentor and Knicks counterpart Larry Brown.

After all, Mitchell said, players just can't stop trying in a huge market like New York.

"They're not going to quit, playing for the Knicks. The city of New York won't let you," Mitchell said. "You won't be able to walk down the street if you quit. You just can't do it. In this city, where are you going to go? You can't go to any restaurants, you can't get in a cab, you can't do anything."

Mitchell saw the passion of Knicks fans during a walk with legend Patrick Ewing.

"You had the people that love him and the people that didn't, they let him know about it to his face," Mitchell said. "I'm like, 'Pat.' He's like, 'Sam, it's New York. It's just how the people are in New York. They will come up to you and say anything.' "
