Bosh all for Rose starting

Count Chris Bosh as a supporter of Raptors coach Sam Mitchell's decision to return Jalen Rose to the starting lineup.

The Raptors' go-to guy gave the move the thumbs-up after he and Rose co-starred in a 121-113 road win over the Seattle SuperSonics on Friday night.

"With Jalen, we have another low-post threat," Bosh said. "He makes the right passes and he is really unselfish."

Rose sees himself as a good sidekick for Bosh.

"It puts another creator in the lineup, a guy that can post up as well," said Rose, who had 28 points and seven assists in the victory.

"A lot of times (Bosh) is the only guy that really posts up. I give (the team) another post presence and another guy that gets to the free-throw line and drives and kicks."

Rose, who limped out of the starting gate this season, has scored 15-plus points for the past four games.

HANG IN THERE

With second-year forward Matt Bonner and the veteran Rose added to the starting lineup, the team's second unit features three rookies -- Charlie Villanueva, Joey Graham and Jose Calderon --and also included the recently recalled and little-used, second-year forward/centre Pape Sow on Friday night.

Knowing the youth that is on the court, Mitchell can't expect the world from his bench.

"You'd like for them to increase the lead, but also just keep us in the game or give us some energy or give us some defence and give us a chance to rest the guys we need to rest," Mitchell said. "We needed to give Chris and Mike (James) and Jalen and Mo (Peterson) some minutes (to rest) so they could finish the game. I just thought we were fresh."

BRIEFLY

The Raptors practised yesterday in a gym at the home of an LA Gear shoe company executive in Los Angeles. The gym is a replica of the Los Angeles Lakers' court and includes championship banners. It certainly wasn't the YMCA ... The Raptors set a team record for free throws in a quarter with 21 in the fourth on Friday against the SuperSonics.
