Big week for Graham

MIKE KOREEN -- Toronto Sun

Joey Graham has a couple of reasons to elevate his game this week.

The Raptors' current three-game road swing features two important stops for the rookie forward.

First, it was homecoming last night in Orlando, where about 23 friends and family members made the one-hour trip from Graham's hometown of Brandon, Fla.

Graham also got tickets for the current 18 members of his high school basketball squad.

Today, Graham heads to Houston, where his twin brother Stephen, is awaiting as a member of a Rockets team that will face the Raptors tomorrow night.

So which game is bigger?

"They're both big," Joey Graham said, giving the politically correct answer.

Graham was a college teammate of Stephen's at Central Florida and Oklahoma State, so this is their first head-to-head matchup since some pick-up games during their college days.

Graham wasn't even sure if he was going to grab a bite to eat with Stephen today.

"He might be too busy for me," Joey Graham said with a smile.

CANADIAN CONTENT

Thanks to the folks at TD Waterhouse, the home of the Orlando Magic has a bit of a Canadian feel. When TD Waterhouse purchased the naming rights to the Magic's arena in 2000, it named it the TD Waterhouse Centre. Note the Canadian-style spelling on centre.

On the downside, the people who run the arena, apparently, aren't quite as familiar with Canada. During morning shootaround, the visiting team's name on the scoreboard was spelled Rapters.

"Does the scoreboard not come with spellcheck?" Raptors forward Matt Bonner quipped.

Before game time, however, the typo was corrected and Raptors was on the big board.

BRIEFLY

Raptors guard Mike James is closing in on three milestones -- 1,000 career assists (he has 963), 250 steals (246) and 5,000 points (4,802).
