One of the Raptors' young prospects is dealing with a serious injury.

Point guard Roko Ukic, who was selected by the Raptors in the second round of the 2005 draft (41st overall) will be sidelined for a month due to a problem with one of his kidneys.

The Croatian star, who plays for Tau Ceramica in the Spanish elite league, was injured during a game at home against Pamesa Valencia on Nov. 25.

It was initially thought that he had suffered a bruised kidney, but further analysis has revealed a more serious problem than the initially expected.

Ukic was supposed to miss practices for 10 days, but is still in hospital.

It has been recommended that he avoid playing basketball for at least a month.

ROSES ARE RED...

Veteran Raptors swingman Jalen Rose is sponsoring a holiday poetry contest. The top five poets will receive an autographed gift from the 12-year veteran. The poems must have a holiday theme -- be it Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, whatever. Entries can be submitted at poetry@jalenrose.com until Dec. 31.

AROUND THE RIM

Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell said coaching his young team almost is like raising children. At least that's how he feels when the Raptors continue to make the same mistakes over and over again.

"You have kids, you ask why they did it," he said. "What do they tell you? They don't know. Same thing (with the players) ... Toronto's Chris Bosh does not mind the comparisons between himself and Emeka Okafor of the Charlotte Bobcats, the Raptors' opponent tomorrow night. Bosh and Okafor are considered two of the best young power forwards in the NBA. "I love them," Bosh said, of the comparisons. "This is an all around great matchup. We're always looking to get the best of each other."
