Lucky loonie pays off

The lucky loonie strikes again.

With Canada's only NBA team in dire need of a win, a member of the Raptors television crew taped a $1 coin to the backside of one of the backboards prior to the tipoff of yesterday's game with the Miami Heat.

And just like the loonie frozen under centre ice at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, the gold-coloured coin proved to have the golden touch as the Raps ended a nine-game losing skid with a 107-94 win over last year's Eastern Conference finalists.

Whether it was intentional or not was up for debate, but the loonie in question was actually minted in 1989, which all NBA diehards know is the same year the Miami Heat came into the league.
