Mitchell not giving up

He may not be sleeping like a baby every night, but Sam Mitchell figures things could be a lot worse.

The Raptors coach, who has had several sleepless nights during his team's winless skid, went on a passionate rant about his lot in life yesterday.

"I don't want anybody to feel sorry for me," Mitchell said before the Raptors played the Boston Celtics last night at TD Banknorth Garden. "There are people in this world you need to feel sorry for. I can handle this ... Do not feel sorry for Sam Mitchell. Sam Mitchell is still doing the thing he loves to do -- coach basketball. I want to win more than anything, but I don't feel sorry for myself."

People who think Mitchell will crack, the coach said, are fooling themselves.

"I'm okay," he said. "I'm a lot tougher than what you think. Thank God for the next game."

PAPE-ING UP IN ARKANSAS

While the Raptors haven't announced they will send forward Pape Sow down to their development league team in Arkansas, general manager Rob Babcock all but confirmed the second-year player will report to the RimRockers in the next few days. Sow did not make the trip to Boston.

"He's a very young player, not so much age-wise as experience-wise because he started playing late," Babcock said. "He needs a lot of game experience and he's not able to get that here right now. He needs to be on-court minutes and good experience and this will be an opportunity for him."

STARS ARE OUT

The NBA unveiled its 2005-06 all-star ballots yesterday with three Raptors -- Morris Peterson and Jalen Rose at guards and Chris Bosh at forward.

HOMECOMING FOR BONNER

Whenever Raptors forward Matt Bonner plays in Boston, it's a big deal for the New Hampshire native.

Bonner, who is from Concord (about an hour away), expected a large cheering contingent last night. Bonner's friends and family got to see him make his second career NBA start

"I got 12 tickets, which is the most I could get," he said. "A lot of people have to get their own tickets."
