Babcock stands up for Araujo

If Raptors staffers want to take some heat off struggling rookie Rafael Araujo, they should show general manager Rob Babcock on the scoreboard.

Babcock said yesterday he doesn't think it's fair for Raptors fans to boo Araujo, which occurred almost every time the Brazilian touched the ball Sunday during a loss against the Boston Celtics.

It seems the GM would prefer having fans direct their anger at him.

"Why not just boo me?" said Babcock, who picked Araujo eighth overall.

UNHAPPY FAN

When asked if he felt fans would boo him if his face was on the scoreboard, Babcock said, "They probably would."

One fan voiced his displeasure with Babcock Sunday when he bellowed, "Hey Babcock, why don't you trade yourself?"

Babcock feels Araujo, who was picked one spot ahead of high-flying Philadelphia 76ers' rookie Andre Iguodala, has worked as hard as possible all season.

"As a fan, I wouldn't boo a player who's giving 100% effort," Babcock said. "I may not like what he's doing on the court, but if he is giving 100% effort I'm not going to boo the guy. He is giving 100% effort. He has been a complete professional in doing everything he can."
