Embry Raps man in middle?

Wayne Embry is getting a new title within the Raptors organization and it remains to be seen how the change will impact the chain of command. Sources told The Toronto Sun that Embry is going to be named special adviser to the president, as opposed to his existing role as special adviser to the general manager.

What that means, evidently, is Embry will report directly to Richard Peddie, the president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Ltd., instead of Rob Babcock, the Raptors' general manager.

Both Peddie and Babcock were contacted, and both had the exact same response when asked if Embry is getting a new title: "No comment."

What isn't yet clear is whether Babcock will continue to report directly to Peddie, or if Babcock technically will report to Embry.

Some observers are of the opinion that Embry has been under-utilized by Babcock, but there does not appear to be tension between the two. On the contrary, some sources suggested Babcock repeatedly has encouraged the Raptors organization to take better advantage of Embry's experience.

Embry's NBA career spans more than 40 years as a player, general manager and team president.

It is unclear when Embry officially will take on his new position. The Raptors have three games remaining in the regular season, which ends next Wednesday.
