Eric still wants out

Eric Williams relished the last few days where he was able to return home to the New York area and spend time with his family.

But now that he's back with the Raptors, where he is getting very little playing, the thrill of the all-star break is definitely over.

Since arriving in Toronto after being dealt to the Raptors from the Nets on Dec.17 in the Vince Carter trade, Williams has watched his numbers steadily fall by the wayside. A week ago, he suggested a trade would be a good thing and yesterday he was still humming that tune.

"If a situation comes by where I could play for a championship or a playoff team, yeah I'd love that opportunity," he said, following the practice at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J.

Williams would love to get some extra playing time in front of his family and fans in Jersey tonight.

"I've been playing this game for 19 years, I know what I can do on the court. I don't have to prove myself to nobody," he said. "It would be good to get playing time, but I don't want it to be forced or anything like that."

CALLING BABCOCK

With the NBA trade deadline now only two days away, Rob Babcock's phone has been ringing a lot the last few days although nothing insane.

Reached in Minnesota last night, where he was at a college game, the Raptors GM claimed that trade talk between himself and other GM's has been "normal for this time of year, nothing extraordinary."

Still, the rumour line continues to buzz with reports that no fewer than four teams are interested in acquiring forward Donyell Marshall, whose contract with the Raptors expires at the end of this season. The Philadelphia 76ers are said to have offered centre Samuel Dalembert to the Raptors, while San Antonio, Miami and Chicago are supposedly also interested. Marshall's agent, Andy Miller, was reportedly urging Babcock to deal his prized client. Jalen Rose and Eric Williams have also spurred interested, most notably from the New York Knicks.
