Vince Carter said that his improved play with the New Jersey Nets has everything to do with his sore Achilles which has healed and the fact that he plays along side outstanding point guard Jason Kidd. And not because he was slacking off while in Toronto. "People say 'Vince is playing like this now. How come he didn't do it in Toronto?' Well Jason Kidd, he's a creator," Carter told the FAN 590's Eric Smith. "He makes it easy for all of us. His ability to shoot the ball, to penetrate, to pass, to draw double teams, it makes it easy. All you have to do is catch the ball and shoot it."
Carter added that he has no problems being a second banana to Kidd.
"I came here to New Jersey just to be that other guy, the Robin to Batman," he said. "I just want to help him out. This is Jason's team and always will be his team."
SAM IS A VINCE FAN
Despite the reports and rumours about a feud and supposed fights between Raptors coach Sam Mitchell and Carter, Mitchell insisted that he holds no animosity towards Vinsanity.
"Understand something," Mitchell said yesterday. "I like Vince. Vince tried to do everything I asked him to do. I'm glad he made the all-star team. When we see Vince, I will congratulate him, give him a hug and wish him well. I don't have any ill feelings about Vince."
The Raptors traded Carter to the New Jersey on Dec.17. Carter had played dreadfully for Toronto but is playing spectacularly for the Nets. That, Mitchell insists, doesn't bother him either.
"All I can do is go on with my life and my team and he goes on with his life and his team," Mitchell said, "and I wish him well."
Veteran forward/guard Jalen Rose shot down reports yesterday that the players are starting to tune out Mitchell.
"That's absurd," Rose said. "But at the end of the day we have the same task and our record goes under all of names."
AROUND THE RIM
According to the New York Post, Isiah Thomas will soon make a push to acquire disgruntled Raptors forward Eric Williams for the Knicks.
