Bad board meeting

Most players usually don't keep running stats lines in their heads as a game is going on.

For example, Raptors forward Chris Bosh said he was shocked when he found out his club had been out-rebounded 61-36 by the New Jersey Nets in an 88-86 loss on Monday. What's more, the Raptors starters were out-rebounded by the Nets starters 41-15, although the Raptors led on the scoreboard for most of the night.

"The interesting thing was, I didn't even know we were getting out-rebounded," said Bosh, who had five boards and 15 points. "That's how focused I was on trying to get rebounds or just the overall effort.

"When people said we got killed on the boards, I thought we got beat by five or 10 rebounds. But it was 25."

Raptors coach Sam Mitchell was at a loss to explain his club's rebounding woes. True, the Raptors aren't the biggest team in the league, but there's nothing stopping them from boxing out or playing sound positional basketball.

"I don't know," Mitchell said. "You're asking me hypothetical questions. I think our guys are playing hard. I don't know why we aren't getting the rebounds. If I knew, we would correct it.

"Go ask the people who are supposed to get (the rebounds). Ask me coaching questions. Don't ask me questions about how guys play, or how they're playing, or how they're not getting rebounds. I can't answer that, because I'm not on the court. If you want to ask me about a play I drew up, or something like that, I can answer that, because that's within my realm."

NO WARDROBE ADJUSTMENT

Raptors guard Vince Carter said he still feels drained and dehydrated following an illness that caused him to miss a game in Cleveland on Saturday. Carter scored a team-high 22 points against New Jersey, but when the club didn't arrive in the Detroit area till 3:30 a.m. yesterday morning, Carter had no idea if he was going to be able to get up for practice.

"When I woke up (yesterday) morning, this is what I had on," said Carter, pointing to his sweat top and matching pants. "So I said, 'Hell, I might as well go to practice.' "
