Carter at the 'wheel'

Raptors guard Vince Carter claims he never has been as sick as he was over the weekend, when he missed a game at Cleveland.

"I was praying to the porcelain god," Carter said yesterday.

"For at least 12 hours there, nothing else was important. I didn't care what anybody had to say. I've never been so acquainted with a bathroom in my life."

Carter still is being careful about what he eats.

"There's not much food I can eat right now," he said. "The little bit of food that has been available, that (the Raptors' medical staff) said I can eat, I have. I destroyed it."

BEGIN THE REGIME

Raptors guard Jalen Rose doesn't enjoy being mentioned in trade rumours, but he understands why it's happening.

"The reality of it is, every time I've been a part of (trade rumours), it's about a regime change," Rose said. "(Former Raptors general manager) Glen Grunwald brought me in and he's not here any more. So with the new regime, I'm pretty sure they're going to want their own people in line.

"I'm going to be a pro about it. But the insubordination, and the tiffs that people are trying to say arise within our team, are just not true. Jalen Rose never has had an altercation with a teammate or a coach, and I don't plan on it."

THE LAST WORD

Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said he no longer will contribute to the analysis of whether it was wise for him to bench starters Rafer Alston and Loren Woods at the beginning of the game in Cleveland. Alston and Woods were being punished for losing their cools a night earlier in Boston. The Raptors fell behind by 21 points in the first quarter and lost by eight.

"It wasn't frustration on my part, and this is the last time I'm going to talk about it," Mitchell said. "From the time I made the decision, I was comfortable. I wasn't mad at them, but the guys have to know that no matter what happens during the course of the game, you have to conduct yourself (properly). When they lose that, I have to step in."
