A new era of boos

Larry Murphy can almost hear the jeers from his Michigan home.

Only this time he is not the target of Toronto sports fans.

Vince Carter is.

Not since Murphy patrolled the Maple Leafs blueline from 1995-97 has a member of a Toronto pro sports team been booed so consistently by the home crowd as Carter has through the first month of the NBA season.

On most occasions that Carter touches the ball at the Air Canada Centre, he receives similar treatment.

"I found out first hand (Toronto fans) were experts at hockey. Now I guess the Raptors have been in town long enough that they are experts at basketball too," Murphy said yesterday, his tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Of course there is one major difference between the two men: Murphy never publicly asked to be dealt. Carter has.
