The NBA suspended Phoenix Suns forward P.J. Tucker for three games without pay for super extreme driving under the influence in Arizona, the team announced Tuesday.

The suspension will commence with the first game of the 2014-15 NBA regular season.

Tucker, 29, pleaded guilty to the charge at a hearing at Scottsdale (Ariz.) City Court on Monday. He was arrested for extreme DUI in May, although reports of the arrest did not arise until a few days ago.

Tucker was charged on four counts, according to the reports. He faced a severe penalty of 45 days in jail for registering a .222 blood alcohol level, nearly three times the legal limit.

In addition to the three days in jail, Tucker faces 11 days of house arrest, but will be allowed to leave for work for no more than 12 hours per day.

He must submit to substance abuse screening and counseling, and could face probation for up to five years. He must also pay $2,750 in fines, not including court costs and jail costs of up to $200 per day, according to The Arizona Republic. Tucker previously released a statement through the team that read: "I would like to express my gratitude to the people of Phoenix for their love and support during my time as a Phoenix Sun. Thank you to the Phoenix Suns organization for supporting me throughout this difficult time. And, of course my wife Tracey, family and friends, who just keep loving me.

"I cannot express how much I appreciate and value the many blessings that I have been given - love and abundance that I never imagined. I am truly blessed. I am so grateful that no one was hurt as a result of my choice to drive impaired."

On July 23, Tucker signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract with the Suns. He started 81 games last season and averaged 9.4 points and 6.5 rebounds.
