Free agent Carmelo Anthony has decided to stay with the New York Knicks, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

A person close to Anthony told the newspaper that barring a last minute change of heart, Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks after "agonizing over this" for the past week.

"He will have something for everybody on Thursday," said the friend who was with Anthony before Anthony's scheduled workout with Kevin Durant and Kevin Love in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to the Daily News. "He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil (Jackson)."

The star forward is expected to sign a five-year, $129 million maximum contract. He had been reportedly considering the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls.

The Lakers have offered Anthony a max deal of $96 million over four years while the Bulls would have to orchestrate a sign-and-trade in order for Anthony to receive close to a max contract, according to the report.

Earlier Wednesday, ESPN.com reported that Anthony planned to hold off on announcing any decision about his future until LeBron James reveals where he will be playing next season.

Sources told ESPN.com that Anthony kept the Knicks, Lakers and other suitors waiting at least in part to see where James goes and whether there would be any option to join his close friend.

According to ESPN, the Lakers' pitch to Anthony included a conversation with Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
