The post-all-star break in the NBA begins with the silly season better known as the trade rumour period, an at times daily exercise in misinformation, speculation and plain stupidity.

It’s the nature of the basketball beast, the byproduct of a 24-hour news cycle that churns out trade scenarios that take on a life on their own, even when there’s no basis in fact.

By Thursday, the league’s trade deadline will have come and gone, a day when many of the names bandied about in the rumour mill will get a chance to exhale.

As of today, no team is as good in the NBA as the Miami Heat, the league’s reigning champs who should have been eyeing a three-peat had it taken care of business two years ago against Dallas.

In LeBron James, Miami has the game’s elite player who simply can’t be stopped.
