The son of former Boston Celtics star and Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird was arrested Sunday at Indiana University after allegedly trying to run over his ex-girlfriend — twice — with a car.

Connor Bird faces multiple preliminary charges, including battery with injury, criminal mischief, intimidation with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana, authorities told the Indianapolis Star Tribune.

According to police, Bird and his ex-girlfriend got into a dispute at his apartment in Bloomington, Ind., where he threw a cell phone at her.

Later that night, Bird waited at his ex-girlfriend's home and took her to a parking lot to talk things over. Another fight began between the two and the woman got out of Bird's car. That's when he twice tried to hit her with the vehicle, as witnessed by a student, police said.

"This is a very private matter that we're going to try to resolve quickly," said John L. Tompkins, the Indianapolis attorney representing Bird. "We're thankful that no one was seriously injured."
