Carmelo Anthony was coming off of a bad season. A mediocre point guard (Jeremy Lin) was replaced by another mediocre point guard (Raymond Felton), ancient Jason Kidd was on board, Tyson Chandler was only getting older, the supporting cast was ancient, J.R. Smith remained one of the league’s biggest wildcards, Amare Stoudemire had bad knees, an uninsured albatross of a contract and previously had shown zero ability to mesh with Anthony.
