BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Thursday's game between the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks has been postponed due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The teams were set to start their respective seasons on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET at the newly built Barclays Center.

The news comes a day after the NBA announced that the game would be played as scheduled.

"Mayor Bloomberg informed us this afternoon that after further analysis of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy that he felt it was in the best interests of the city of New York, the teams and our fans that we postpone the Knicks-Nets game scheduled for Thursday night," NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver said. "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating storm."

Many of New York's public transportation systems have been suspended since before the start of the storm and are still experiencing flooding.

The Nets are scheduled to host Toronto on Saturday night, while the Knicks will play Friday at Madison Square Garden against the Miami Heat.
