New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire’s brother died in an early Monday morning car crash, according to a team spokesman.

Media reports indicated Hazell Stoudemire was driving a Cadillac Escalade north on U.S. 27 in Lake Wales, Fla., at a high speed and hit the back of a tractor trailer at approximately 1:45 a.m. ET.

The 35-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was dead at the scene, according to police.

Amare Stoudemire is traveling to Florida to be with his family and will miss Monday night’s game when the Utah Jazz visit Madison Square Garden.

Amare Stoudemire is from the Central Florida area of Lake Wells.
