Lakers sign Troy Murphy
By The Sports Xchange

The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t exactly replaced traded forward Lamar Odom, but they ensured they would at least have another big man to work with, signing forward/center Troy Murphy.

Murphy, who was limited by a back injury and averaged just 3.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 35 games last season, was signed for one year at $1.4 million, according to the Los Angeles Times.

If healthy, Murphy can be more productive, with career averages of 11.6 points and 8.3 rebounds in his 10 NBA seasons.

Teammate Pau Gasol welcomed Murphy, though he wondered what type of role he would play.

“I’m not sure how much playing time he would get here or how much the coaching staff will use him, but we definitely need some more depth inside,” Gasol said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “He can shoot the ball consistently from outside and he’s a player that’s been around, so he’s experienced.”
