Los Angeles Lakers all-star Kobe Bryant's battery investigation over an alleged altercation at a church has been referred to prosecutors.

Last month, a visitor at the St. Theresa of Carmel Church in Carmel Valley, Calif., filed a police report claiming Bryant allegedly grabbed his cell phone after accusing him of trying to take photos of the star and his family.

The accuser, who has been named as Thomas Hagos by Bryant's attorney Mark Campbell, claims his wrist was injured during the alleged clash, but the basketball star's lawyer labelled the accusations "baseless."

Now police officials have reportedly referred the case to the San Diego City Attorney, according to TMZ.com.

The website reports cops believe the allegations will be filed as a misdemeanour battery charge, which carries a maximum sentence of six months behind bars.
