Basketball legend Larry Finch dies
By Sports Network

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- University of Memphis basketball legend Larry Finch died Saturday at the age of 60.

The cause of death is not known, but Finch suffered multiple strokes over the past 10 years.

As a player, Finch led the Tigers to the 1973 NCAA championship game before losing to UCLA.

Finch went on to coach Memphis from 1986-97, posting a 220-130 record with six NCAA tournament berths. His 220 coaching victories are the most in school history.

"In addition to having the utmost respect for Larry as a player and a coach, he was also one of the finest people I've ever been around," said Gene Bartow, who coached Finch at Memphis. "I'm asked a lot about who was the greatest player I ever coached, and I always have the same answer: Larry Finch. Larry helped provide the roots for this city's wonderful basketball tradition, and his contributions to Memphis were immense. He will be missed."
